RULES AND REGULATIONS

 NEW YORK GRAND PRIZE PIANO COMPETITION - 2025 Edition

1. Competition Overview

The New York Grand Prize Piano Competition is an international online piano competition presented by the Miceli Arts Foundation. It is open to young pianists from around the world, with the goal of discovering, supporting, and showcasing exceptional emerging talent.

The competition is entirely online, with winners invited to perform at the prestigious National Opera America Center in New York City.

2. Age Categories

Participants will be divided into three categories based on their age as of the application deadline:

  • Junior Division: Ages 5–12

  • Senior Division: Ages 13–17

  • Emerging Artists Division: Ages 18–29

3. Repertoire Requirements

Each participant must submit a video performance that meets the following criteria:

3.1 Junior Division (Ages 5–12)

  • Repertoire: Free choice (any style or composer)

  • Duration: Maximum of 5 minutes

  • Memorization is encouraged but not mandatory.

3.2 Senior Division (Ages 13–17)

  • Repertoire: Free choice (any style or composer)

  • Duration: Maximum of 10 minutes

  • Performance must be from memory.

3.3 Emerging Artists Division (Ages 18–29)

  • Repertoire: Free choice including:

    • One Prelude and Fugue by J.S. Bach (from The Well-Tempered Clavier, Books I or II)

  • Total Duration: Minimum 13 minutes, maximum 25 minutes

  • The full program must be performed from memory.

4. Video Submission Guidelines

  • Videos must be recorded live and unedited, with a fixed camera angle.

  • Entire body and hands of the performer must be clearly visible at all times.

  • Professional audio quality is strongly recommended (external microphone encouraged).

  • Each piece must be recorded in a single, continuous take.

  • Videos must be uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo as unlisted links and submitted through the online application form.

5. Application Process

  • Applications must be submitted online at: www.miceliarts.org

  • All entries must be received by October 30, 2025

  • Required materials:

    • Completed application form

    • Proof of age (copy of passport or ID)

    • Video performance link

  • APPLICATION FEES:

    • Junior Division: $60 USD

    • Senior Division: $80 USD

    • Emerging Artists Division: $100 USD

  • Fees are non-refundable.

6. Jury and Evaluation Criteria

President: Stefano Miceli (USA)

Dizhou Zhao (China)

Shuyu Lin (Taiwan)

Anthony Tam (Hong Kong) 

Participants will be judged by a distinguished international jury of professional pianists, educators, and artistic directors. Evaluation is based on:

  • Technical proficiency

  • Musical interpretation and style

  • Artistic maturity

  • Repertoire selection

  • Overall presentation

All jury decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

7. Awards and Recognition

  • Category Winners will be invited to perform at the Winners’ Concert at the National Opera America Center in New York City.

  • Special Awards may include:

    • Best Bach Performance

    • Most Promising Young Artist

    • Artistic Excellence Award

  • All participants will receive a certificate of participation. Finalists and winners will receive official digital certificates and may be featured on Miceli Arts Foundation  platforms.

8. Terms and Conditions

  • By applying, participants agree to abide by all rules and deadlines.

  • All submitted video materials may be used for promotional and educational purposes by the Miceli Arts Foundation.

  • Winners are responsible for their own travel and accommodation for the New York concert unless otherwise noted.

  • Participants under age 18 must submit a parental consent form with their application.
